Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant was sidelined for a sixth straight game on Thursday against Oklahoma City due to a left hamstring strain.
According to Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal, Memphis head coach Taylor Jenkins addressed the situation before his firing on Friday, telling reporters that Morant is currently in the “day-to-day phase” of his recovery and hopes to return soon.
“He’s been progressing in his on-court workouts,” Jenkins stated. “It’s a matter of hitting top-end speeds to make sure that hamstring is in a good place when he’s comfortable enough to return. … He’s working his tail off to get back out there. We’re excited to get him back out there. He is, too.”
Morant has struggled with injuries throughout the season, including multiple shoulder issues, limiting him to just 43 of Memphis’ 73 games.
Despite his absence, the team has posted a solid 28-15 record in those games. However, when Morant is unavailable, the Grizzlies have been less successful, with a 16-14 record.
