The Los Angeles Lakers are planning to address their center position during the offseason, prioritizing the acquisition of either a starting center or a reliable backup to provide depth behind Jaxson Hayes.
According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, this will be a key focus for the team in the coming months.
Although L.A. initially acquired Mark Williams from Charlotte before the trade deadline, they ultimately canceled the deal due to concerns about Williams’ physical condition.
In addition to strengthening the center position, Buha anticipates that the Lakers will also work on securing contract extensions with key players like Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
The team is expected to negotiate new deals with LeBron James and Dorian Finney-Smith as well.
Doncic, in particular, will be eligible for a four-year extension in August, which could be worth an estimated $228.6 million, adding another layer of importance to the Lakers’ upcoming roster decisions.
