Throughout much of the season, the Memphis Grizzlies have relied on rookies Jaylen Wells and Zach Edey to start games, but coach Taylor Jenkins has recently been scaling back their playing time, as noted by William Guillory of The Athletic.
On Friday night, Wells played just 17 minutes, while Edey saw only 11 minutes on the floor, as the Cleveland Cavaliers became the latest team to exploit both rookies, targeting them on both defense and offense.
While Wells and Edey faced challenges against the Cavaliers, Grizzlies’ bench players Scotty Pippen Jr. and Brandon Clarke stepped up, providing valuable contributions off the bench.
However, despite the efforts from the reserves, Guillory reports that Coach Jenkins continues to search for the right lineups and effective player combinations to complement stars like Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, and Jaren Jackson Jr.
As Memphis looks to maximize its potential, Jenkins remains focused on finding the ideal mix of players to compete at the highest level.
