With a relatively weak 2025 free-agent class, the Brooklyn Nets are expected to prioritize leveraging their $60 million in cap space for trades rather than making significant signings.

By renting out their financial flexibility to acquire additional assets, the Nets are likely positioning themselves near the top of the lottery ahead of the 2026 NBA Draft.

“They’re going to use it in trade because they’re not going to have anyone to pay in this free agent market,” a rival executive explained, adding, “They could end up right back in this spot next year.”

Since the Nets are not expected to pursue restricted free agents aggressively, the overall market for those players could develop more slowly.

This season, Brooklyn will be selecting in the lottery for the first time since drafting Derrick Favors in 2010.

Despite their lack of star talent, the team has been more competitive than anticipated under head coach Jordi Fernandez.

“If you’re the Nets, the thing you’re excited about is Jordi,” an executive noted, highlighting Fernandez’s impact in keeping the team competitive despite its roster limitations.
