The Golden State Warriors extended their winning streak to five games with a 130-120 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday night.
Stephen Curry finished with 24 points, knocking down five 3-pointers to move within two of becoming the first player in NBA history to reach 4,000 career makes from beyond the arc.
Jimmy Butler recorded a triple-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, marking the first such performance by a Warrior this season. Since Butler’s debut with Golden State on Feb. 8, the team has gone 12-2 and 12-1 in games he has played.
Gary Payton II had a career-high 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting as the Warriors improved to 37-28, holding firm as the sixth seed in the Western Conference.
Deni Avdija led the Blazers with a career-best performance, posting 34 points, 16 rebounds, and six assists. Anfernee Simons added 32 points for Portland, which dropped its fourth straight game to fall to 28-38, sitting 12th in the West.
Golden State shot 51.2% from deep, with Buddy Hield connecting on six 3-pointers and Payton making four. Quinten Post, a 7-foot center, also added three makes from long range.
The Warriors controlled the game early, leading by 19 at halftime before Portland erupted for 43 points in the third quarter to cut the deficit. However, Golden State maintained its composure, closing out the game with steady offensive execution.
Portland played without Jerami Grant, who remained sidelined with a right knee injury. Golden State was also shorthanded, missing Brandin Podziemski for a second straight game due to back soreness.
With another win, the Warriors remain one of the hottest teams in the league as they push toward playoff positioning.
