Los Angeles Lakers veteran forward LeBron James may be sidelined for “a matter of weeks, not a matter of days” after sustaining a groin strain during Saturday night’s matchup against the Boston Celtics, according to sources who spoke with ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
However, the exact length of James’ absence remains uncertain, as sources emphasized that a clearer timetable will only emerge after he undergoes imaging to assess the severity of the injury.
Despite concerns, James himself downplayed the situation following the game, stating that there was “not much concern” and that he would “go day to day” in managing the injury.
When asked to compare this strain to the torn groin he suffered on Christmas Day in 2018 – a significant injury that sidelined him for an extended period – James reassured reporters that this situation was less severe.
“No, it’s not as bad as that. It’s not as bad as that,” he reiterated, suggesting that while the injury will require caution, it may not be as devastating as his previous groin issue.
James has played 22 seasons for the Cavaliers, Lakers and Heat. He has averaged 27.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists in 1,549 regular-season games. He was selected to play in 20 All-Star games.
He has won the Rookie of the Year award, 4 MVP awards, 4 Finals MVP awards and 4 NBA championships.
