The Dallas Mavericks have suffered another injury setback as forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper is expected to undergo season-ending surgery for a serious wrist injury. The 2023 first-round pick has been diagnosed with ligament damage in his right wrist, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.
Prosper, who had been earning more playing time recently, was averaging 5.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 16.3 minutes per game over his last 24 appearances. This includes four starts, showcasing his growing role within the Mavericks’ rotation.
This latest injury is a significant blow for Dallas, which has already been dealing with multiple injuries this season. With Prosper now out for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign, the Mavericks’ frontcourt depth is further depleted.
The team has been hit hard by injuries throughout the season. Anthony Davis is also sidelined with an adductor strain, and Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II are recovering from knee and ankle issues, respectively. The Mavericks have struggled to maintain consistency due to these setbacks.
Dallas, currently sitting at 32-32 and 10th in the Western Conference, finds themselves battling for a playoff spot. The team is already grappling with the loss of star guard Kyrie Irving, who suffered a season-ending ACL injury earlier this month.
Prosper’s injury adds to the Mavericks’ growing list of sidelined players, which includes key contributors like Jaden Hardy and P.J. Washington. As the team navigates these challenges, the pressure is mounting to stay in the playoff race without their full roster.
