Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards recently addressed the pressure of being considered the face of the NBA, revealing his mixed feelings about the title.
“Face of the NBA? Face of the NBA? Man, there’s a lot of sh– that comes with that,” Edwards said, via HoopsHype. “I try, but I just—my people know—I just want to play ball, go to the crib, and play my game. I’m not really into all the other stuff, but they want me to get into it.”
Despite his reluctance to embrace the spotlight, Edwards has been undeniable on the court. Averaging a career-high 27.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.6 assists, the 23-year-old has continued to show why he’s considered one of the brightest young stars in the league.
In his fifth NBA season, Edwards earned his third All-Star selection, solidifying his place among the league’s elite players. However, the Timberwolves have not been able to match last year’s success, as they sit seventh in the Western Conference with a 36-29 record.
The Timberwolves reached the Western Conference Finals last season, but their performance this year has been inconsistent, raising questions about their ability to contend. Still, Edwards remains focused on what he does best—playing basketball.
With the Timberwolves’ playoff hopes still alive, Edwards will be key to their success moving forward. While the title of “face of the NBA” may be a heavy burden for some, Edwards is determined to focus on basketball and continue proving himself on the court.
