The Minnesota Timberwolves were unable to make a realistic push for Kevin Durant at the trade deadline, but that didn’t stop them from exploring potential avenues to acquire the superstar forward.

Despite the challenges, Minnesota made a few calls to express interest and is expected to revisit trade discussions in the offseason.

“Another small market team to watch: the Minnesota Timberwolves,” ESPN’s Brian Windhorst said on Get Up, highlighting the connection between Durant and Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards.

“Ant Edwards and KD have a very tight connection. Also from the Olympics. The Timberwolves tried to pull off a crazy trade at the deadline for KD. Look for them to revisit those talks this summer.”

Minnesota’s pursuit of Durant was serious enough that they explored options involving third teams to maneuver around salary cap restrictions and get under the second apron to make a deal feasible.

Given their current roster construction, any potential trade package would likely center around Julius Randle, along with a mix of younger players and future assets.

However, one major hurdle remains: the Wolves do not currently possess any tradeable first-round picks. That limitation means they would likely need to include multiple pick swaps to entice the Phoenix Suns into a deal.

While the challenges are significant, Minnesota’s persistence signals that they remain committed to finding a way to pair Durant with Edwards and strengthen their title-contending aspirations.
