Luka Doncic is adjusting well to his new home with the Los Angeles Lakers after his blockbuster trade last month. In the nine games he’s played for Los Angeles, he’s been averaging 22.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists, helping propel the Lakers to a 39-21 record, good for second in the Western Conference.

The Slovenian superstar shared insights on how he’s adapting to his new teammates, particularly in terms of understanding each other’s play styles. “Yeah, I think it’s getting better and better,” Doncic said, per Ryan Ward. “You saw the Gortat screen. I told [Trey Jemison] last game, if you do that, it’s gonna be open there for me.”

The 26-year-old guard also highlighted the importance of effective communication and mutual understanding. “It’s about talking about things, what things I like, what things they like and what’s gonna make it easier to win,” Doncic explained. This mindset has clearly been paying off, as the Lakers have been in the midst of an impressive seven-game win streak.

Despite their success, Doncic acknowledged there’s still work to be done. “A lot. I think I got to drive more. I’m still getting that rhythm,” he said. “But in the end of the day, it’s about winning games, and we’re doing that now, and we can’t relax at all.”

The Lakers’ recent win over the New Orleans Pelicans further illustrated Doncic’s impact. In the 136-115 blowout, Doncic scored 30 points, recorded 15 assists, and grabbed 8 rebounds. His performance, alongside LeBron James’ 34 points, contributed to the Lakers’ commanding win and their continued dominance in the Western Conference.

With Doncic in the mix, the Lakers’ offense has become even more potent. James, who added a milestone 34 points, has been at the forefront of the team’s success, breaking the NBA record for combined regular-season and playoff points with 50,000. Their partnership, highlighted by high scoring outputs from both players, has made the Lakers one of the most dangerous teams in the league.

The Lakers are now 11-2 since acquiring Doncic, and his ability to fit seamlessly into the lineup has been crucial in their rise to the second spot in the West. With injured players Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura expected to return soon, Los Angeles appears to be in a strong position to make a deep run into the postseason.

As the Lakers continue their push, Doncic’s adjustment to the team and his growing chemistry with James and the rest of the roster will be key to their success in the coming months.
