The New Orleans Pelicans have added backcourt depth by signing Lester Quinones to a two-way contract. NBA insider Shams Charania reported that the 24-year-old guard is joining New Orleans after brief stints with the Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors.
Quinones appeared in four games for the Sixers this season, averaging 2.3 points and 1.0 rebound in just 4.3 minutes per contest.
While his NBA opportunities have been limited, he has put up strong numbers in the G League, averaging 22.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in 36 minutes per game across 33 appearances.
The Pelicans, currently 14th in the Western Conference with a 17-44 record, continue to evaluate talent as they navigate a rebuilding phase. Adding Quinones gives them another developmental option with scoring potential.
Before his brief stint in Philadelphia, Quinones spent two seasons with Golden State, where he primarily played for the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League. He showcased his scoring ability and versatility, which earned him opportunities at the NBA level.
New Orleans has leaned on a young core throughout the season, giving extended minutes to developing players. Quinones’ scoring ability and rebounding as a guard could make him a valuable depth piece down the stretch.
With his new two-way contract, he will split time between the Pelicans and their G League affiliate, the Birmingham Squadron. His experience in the G League this season should allow him to transition smoothly into New Orleans’ system.
