The Houston Rockets are making roster moves as they push toward the playoffs, converting two-way guard Nate Williams to a four-year, $8.2 million standard contract. To create space, the team is waiving veteran center Cody Zeller, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.

Williams, 26, has split time between the Rockets and their G League affiliate, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, this season. He has appeared in eight NBA games, averaging 3.6 points in just 5.5 minutes per contest.

In the G League, Williams has been a standout performer, averaging 20.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists over 17 games. His strong play earned him a long-term deal as Houston looks to develop its young talent.

Zeller, a 32-year-old veteran in his 11th NBA season, played 43 games for the Rockets, averaging 1.8 points and 2.6 rebounds in limited minutes. With Houston focused on youth and flexibility, the team opted to part ways with the veteran big man.

The Rockets (37-23) currently sit fifth in the Western Conference. Williams’ conversion gives them another scoring option off the bench as they prepare for a deep postseason run.
