There is an expectation that the Minnesota Timberwolves and Naz Reid will likely assess their future together beyond this season, but the situation surrounding Nickeil Alexander-Walker is more uncertain, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

Since being traded to the Timberwolves in 2023, Alexander-Walker has developed into a strong point-of-attack defender and a reliable outside shooter, posting a .393 three-point shooting percentage while with the team.

Some executives around the league believe Alexander-Walker’s next contract could reach as much as $20 million per year, which may pose a challenge for the Timberwolves.

With several large contracts already on the payroll, the team could face difficulties managing their financial situation if they choose to retain Alexander-Walker at that salary level.

Alexander-Walker has played 6 seasons for the Timberwolves, Jazz and Pelicans. He has averaged 8.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 357 regular-season games.
