Joel Embiid is facing new setbacks in his recovery from a knee injury, as reported by NBA insider Shams Charania. The 76ers center is consulting with doctors to explore alternative treatment options, after current methods, including injections, failed to provide any improvement.
Embiid, a former MVP, has already missed a significant portion of the season, appearing in just 19 games. Despite his efforts to return to form, the 30-year-old’s performance has been hindered by persistent swelling in his left knee, which resurfaced after Saturday’s home loss to the Brooklyn Nets.
For the first time in almost four years, Embiid has scored 15 or fewer points in consecutive games, further raising concerns about his health. He is averaging 23.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 30.2 minutes per game, numbers significantly lower than his usual production.
The 76ers, who made a high-profile acquisition in Paul George during the offseason, had championship aspirations for this season. However, their current record of 20-36 has them sitting 12th in the Eastern Conference, far from the playoff picture.
Philadelphia is now at a crossroads, with the team hoping for progress in Embiid’s recovery. But with limited options and a struggling season, the 76ers face tough decisions ahead.
