Franz Wagner delivered a dominant performance as the Orlando Magic edged the San Antonio Spurs 112-111 on Saturday night. Wagner finished with 33 points and 12 rebounds, leading Orlando to victory in a game they trailed for most of the night.
Paolo Banchero hit a 15-foot jumper with 24.7 seconds left to give the Magic the lead. Victor Wembanyama had a chance to put the Spurs ahead in the final moments, but his mid-range shot missed the mark. The Magic improved to 26-28, while San Antonio fell to 22-28.
Anthony Black played a key role off the bench, scoring 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting. Banchero contributed 17 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, while Jonathan Isaac added 14 points and eight boards. The Magic shot 51.1% from the field despite missing Jalen Suggs, who sat out his fifth straight game with a quadriceps injury.
Devin Vassell led the Spurs with 25 points on 11-for-14 shooting. Harrison Barnes knocked down five 3-pointers in the first quarter and finished with 21 points and eight rebounds. Wembanyama had 18 points, nine rebounds, four steals, and four blocks, making an impact on both ends of the floor.
Black’s efficient night included three made 3-pointers, and Orlando’s second unit provided a major spark. The Magic’s bench outscored San Antonio’s reserves 44-32, with Tristan da Silva and Wendell Carter Jr. chipping in valuable minutes.
The Spurs took control early, leading 60-57 at halftime behind Barnes’ hot shooting. Orlando struggled in the third quarter, managing only 24 points, but stormed back in the fourth with a 31-point effort. Wagner and Black combined for 18 of those points, helping the Magic erase a late deficit.
De’Aaron Fox, playing his third game since joining the Spurs, finished with nine points and nine assists. Chris Paul added six points and five assists but struggled from deep, missing all three of his 3-point attempts.
Despite ranking 24th in field-goal percentage this season, the Magic found offensive rhythm when it mattered most. Their 51.1% shooting helped them overcome a slow start, and they converted 10-of-30 from beyond the arc.
