Carmelo Anthony has weighed in on the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers and Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks. The former NBA star suggested that while LeBron James didn’t know about the trade itself, he was aware of Davis’ dissatisfaction.

“At this point in time, in order to make certain things happen, I can’t put certain people in these situations to actually influence or mess this up,” Anthony said on 7PM in Brooklyn. “Bron couldn’t have known. He couldn’t. Rich Paul couldn’t know. Nobody else could know. He knew AD was unhappy. He knew AD was unhappy—that’s what he knew.”

James had previously stated that he was shocked when he learned about the trade, which took place without input from players or agents. The deal, orchestrated by Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka and Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison, reshaped both franchises.

Los Angeles acquired Doncic, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris, while Dallas landed Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick. The Utah Jazz also played a role in the trade, receiving Jalen Hood-Schifino and two second-round picks.

The Mavericks approached the Lakers with the offer, and after internal discussions, Los Angeles decided that Doncic could be their long-term cornerstone. The trade was finalized, pairing Davis with Kyrie Irving in Dallas.

Doncic, currently sidelined with a calf injury, has been averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 7.8 assists this season. The Lakers are betting on his offensive skill set and leadership to guide the franchise into the future.

Meanwhile, Davis was putting up 25.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists before being moved. The Mavericks view him as a dominant two-way player who can elevate their title hopes.

The Lakers will now focus on maximizing Doncic’s potential alongside James, a dynamic pairing that could make Los Angeles a serious contender. Managing Doncic’s health will also be a priority for the organization.

Dallas, on the other hand, is banking on Davis’ defensive impact to complement their offensive firepower. With Irving and Davis leading the charge, the Mavericks are aiming for a deep playoff run.

The Jazz, acting as facilitators in the trade, continued their strategy of acquiring young assets, adding Hood-Schifino and two additional second-round picks.

This trade has sent shockwaves across the NBA, altering the Western Conference landscape. All eyes are now on Doncic and Davis as they adjust to their new teams.
