The Indiana Pacers are reportedly fielding strong trade interest for Myles Turner as the February 6th NBA trade deadline draws near.
However, NBA insider Marc Stein reports that the team is hesitant to part ways with the talented big man, who has been a cornerstone of their roster since being drafted 11th overall in 2015 out of Texas.
Turner, a key figure in Indiana’s frontcourt, will become an unrestricted free agent this summer and is represented by Austin Brown.
Despite his pending free agency, the player remains a highly coveted asset around the league, with multiple teams eager to acquire his services.
Nevertheless, the Pacers are only willing to entertain trade offers if they receive a starting-caliber center in return, given their ongoing depth challenges at the position this season.
This season, Turner has been delivering solid performances, averaging 15.6 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game over 31.1 minutes.
In addition to his defensive impact, he’s shooting an impressive 40% from beyond the arc on 5.2 attempts per game, showcasing his versatility as a modern stretch big.
With concerns about managing the salary cap looming, the Pacers may also look into moving one of their surplus wing players to improve their financial positioning.
Such a move would give them better flexibility to re-sign Turner during the offseason and retain a core piece of their lineup for the foreseeable future.
Turner’s ability to protect the rim, stretch the floor, and contribute offensively makes him a critical component of the Pacers’ long-term strategy.
