The Los Angeles Lakers have no intention of including Austin Reaves in any potential trade discussions for Sacramento Kings guard De’Aaron Fox, according to Marc Stein.
Stein reported on Substack that the Lakers’ stance is well known within Klutch Sports, which represents LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Fox. Sacramento is reportedly interested in acquiring Reaves in any Fox deal, but Los Angeles is unwilling to part with the 26-year-old guard.
Fox, 27, is averaging 25.1 points, 5 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game this season. He is in the fourth year of a five-year, $163 million contract and has reportedly made it clear that he does not intend to sign an extension with the Kings.
Reaves, 26, is having a breakout season, posting career highs with 18.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game. He is in the second year of a four-year, $54 million contract and has established himself as a key contributor for the Lakers.
Los Angeles currently holds the fifth seed in the Western Conference with a 27-19 record, while Sacramento sits at 10th place with a 24-23 record. The Kings’ interest in Fox trade discussions has intensified ahead of the trade deadline, but finding a suitable deal remains uncertain.
With Reaves off the table, Sacramento may have to look elsewhere if it intends to move Fox before the deadline. The Kings have reportedly engaged in discussions with multiple teams, but the Lakers’ refusal to trade Reaves could impact the market for the All-Star guard.
Fox’s contract situation and his reported preference for San Antonio as a destination add another layer of complexity to any potential deal. While the Kings may continue exploring options, Los Angeles remains focused on strengthening its roster without sacrificing key contributors.
As the February 6 trade deadline approaches, it remains to be seen whether Sacramento will find a trade partner willing to meet its asking price for Fox.
