Dallas Mavericks veteran Dirk Nowitzki has announced his retirement from international basketball, ending a stellar 18-year career with the German national side.

Nowitzki told the Bild newspaper that Eurobasket 2015 was indeed his last stand as a Germany player, having represented them 153 times, scoring a total of 3045 points.

The 37-year-old 2011 NBA Finals MVP played for the Germany side that took third place in the 2002 FIBA world championships in the United States and second place at Eurobasket 2005.

Nowitzki was also the German flag carrier at the opening ceremony for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

“My last game in the Eurobasket 2015, was also my last game with Germany,” Nowitzki told the German newspaper in a short but effective statement.
