Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson has emerged as a leading candidate to be traded before the February 6 trade deadline, according to NBA executives.

Johnson’s name has been frequently mentioned as Brooklyn navigates a transition period, focusing on reshaping its roster for the future.

Additionally, Nic Claxton, another key Nets player, has drawn trade interest, further highlighting the team’s willingness to consider significant changes as part of their rebuilding strategy.

Despite the speculation, Brooklyn is not rushing into any deals involving Johnson or Claxton without receiving considerable value in return.

A league executive emphasized the Nets’ approach, stating, “The Nets’ asking price is high, and they’ve made it clear they don’t feel they have to trade them right now.”

The executive also noted that while Brooklyn is open to trading Johnson and Claxton if it aligns with their goals, they are equally prepared to either keep them contributing on the court or adjust their roles as needed to align with their rebuilding priorities.

Brooklyn’s front office, led by GM Sean Marks, has already been active this season, orchestrating trades involving Dennis Schroder and Dorian Finney-Smith.

Marks also made a strategic move ahead of the season by reacquiring the Nets’ 2025 first-round draft pick from the Houston Rockets, a decision that underscores the organization’s focus on building for the future.

As the trade deadline approaches, the Nets are expected to continue exploring opportunities to move veteran players and prioritize securing a strong lottery position in the 2025 NBA Draft.
