Jimmy Butler’s future with the Miami Heat appears uncertain, as NBA insider Marc Stein reports that the All-Star forward is hoping for a trade to the Phoenix Suns. Sources close to the situation indicate that Butler desires a move to Phoenix, citing the opportunity to join forces with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, alongside the potential for a lucrative contract extension that he has not been able to secure with the Heat.

Executives across the league, including those from teams that have been linked to Butler in trade discussions, have shared similar sentiments. The consensus is clear: Butler’s preference is to land with the Suns. The franchise’s willingness to offer a significant extension, backed by owner Mat Ishbia’s deep pockets, makes Phoenix an appealing destination for the star.

The Suns, currently sitting 12th in the West with a 16-19 record, have been actively exploring trade options to improve their expensive roster. Reports suggest that they are considering moving beyond Butler in their search for upgrades, while also exploring the inclusion of their only tradeable first-round pick in 2031. Despite this, the idea of adding Butler remains prominent in their plans, and the prospect of pairing him with Durant and Booker could reshape the team’s future.

Butler’s desire to leave the Heat has led to previous reports indicating that his camp has steered other teams away from trading for him. The Milwaukee Bucks and Memphis Grizzlies, both of which had been linked to Butler in potential trade scenarios, were reportedly warned off. The 35-year-old forward has made it clear that his priority lies with the Suns.

The Heat are reportedly hesitant to take on Bradley Beal’s contract in a potential trade with Phoenix, further complicating matters. This suggests that any deal involving Butler could require a third or even fourth team to facilitate the trade. Beal’s no-trade clause, inherited from his previous deal with the Washington Wizards, also gives him control over any potential trade, adding another layer of complexity to the situation.
