The Chicago Bulls are set to retire Derrick Rose’s No. 1 jersey during the 2025-26 NBA season, cementing his place in franchise history. Rose, who retired this past offseason, will join a prestigious group of players whose jerseys hang in the United Center rafters.
NBA insider Shams Charania confirmed the news, tweeting that the Bulls will honor Rose for his contributions to the team. The Chicago native spent eight seasons with the Bulls, where he became the youngest MVP in NBA history at the age of 22.
Rose was selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft and went on to win Rookie of the Year honors before capturing the MVP award in 2011.
Bulls CEO and president Michael Reinsdorf personally informed Rose of the jersey retirement plans on Saturday morning.
The announcement comes on the heels of a special evening for Bulls fans. In a game against the New York Knicks on Saturday, the team celebrated Rose’s legacy, with Coby White making nine three-pointers and scoring 33 points. Zach LaVine also tallied 33 points, helping the Bulls secure a 139-126 victory. The win brought the Bulls to a 16-19 record, while the Knicks fell to 24-12.
The night held extra significance as fans rallied behind the team’s recognition of Rose’s impact. With Rose’s No. 1 jersey joining those of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and other legendary figures, it marks an emotional moment for both the franchise and the city of Chicago.
Rose’s career trajectory was filled with highs and lows. After his MVP season in 2011, injuries plagued much of his career, but his perseverance allowed him to make a successful return to the NBA. His time with the Bulls was marked by electrifying performances, and he remains a beloved figure in Chicago sports history.
