Jonas Valanciunas, who joined the Washington Wizards on a three-year, $30.3 million contract as part of a sign-and-trade deal last summer, finds himself a topic of trade speculation.

With a manageable $9.9 million salary this season, the 7-foot center represents a valuable, tradeable asset as the February 6 deadline approaches. Yet, despite the swirling rumors, Valanciunas remains focused on his role with the Wizards.

“They wanted me, they showed some trust in me, so I’m happy here,” Valanciunas said about the Wizards.

“You’ve got to stay patient. But we get better, we practice, and the young guys drive me to get better, too. I feel the kick in my ass to practice and get better and work on my skills. So, I’m taking advantage from that.”

As a seasoned veteran, the Lithuanian big man embraces his position as both a contributor and a mentor, channeling his energy into personal improvement and helping the Wizards’ youthful core develop.

Valanciunas, now in his 13th NBA season, has built a solid career across four teams, including notable stints with the Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Pelicans.

Over 886 regular-season games, the veteran center has averaged 13.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per contest, showcasing his consistency as a reliable presence in the paint.
