Fenerbahce has officially parted ways with veteran center Boban Marjanovic, exercising an exit clause in his contract. The 36-year-old’s tenure with the Turkish powerhouse ends after making just six EuroLeague appearances this season.
Marjanovic joined Fenerbahce last summer after a nine-year NBA career but struggled to find consistent minutes. In his limited EuroLeague action, he averaged 4.0 points and 3.5 rebounds across 10 minutes per game.
The Serbian center played only once since Round 6, appearing in Fenerbahce’s Round 14 victory against Real Madrid. Despite his strong reputation, his limited involvement likely factored into the club’s decision to terminate the contract.
Marjanovic returned to European basketball this year following an extensive NBA journey with six franchises, including the San Antonio Spurs, Detroit Pistons, and Houston Rockets. Before his NBA stint, Marjanovic established himself as one of Europe’s premier centers with Crvena Zvezda.
Fenerbahce, currently competing for EuroLeague playoff positioning, will now look to recalibrate its roster with the departure of the towering 7-foot-4 center. The team has yet to announce a replacement or any additional roster moves.
Marjanovic’s next steps remain uncertain. While a return to another European club is possible, his extensive career spanning two continents could also lead him toward retirement or other opportunities in basketball.
