The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly looking to move Clint Capela before the trade deadline, with sources telling Jake Fischer that a deal is likely.

Capela is currently in the final year of his $22.4 million contract, and despite his solid play this season, the Hawks do not expect to re-sign him moving forward.

This comes as the team expresses growing confidence in Onyeka Okongwu, who they believe is ready to take over as the starting center for the long term.

Capela, who is in his 30-year-old season, has been a key contributor for the Hawks, averaging 10.0 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 23.0 minutes per game across 27 appearances.

His strong rebounding and defensive presence have kept him an important player for the team, even as Atlanta transitions to a new long-term vision at center with Okongwu.

Capela, who has a proven track record as one of the league’s top rebounders and shot blockers, is represented by agents Darren Matsubara and Jason Ranne.

Given his expiring contract and the Hawks’ desire to retool their roster, Capela could be an appealing trade target for teams in need of an experienced center as the trade deadline approaches

His departure would open up more opportunities for Okongwu, who has shown promising development as a potential starting player in the future.
