Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard has seen a high level of confidence from Bobby Portis every day, no matter if he’s struggling or not (averaging 22.5 PPG/7.5 RPG/2.5 APG/1.0 SPG/2.0 BPG/85.7% FG/87.5% 3-PT/66.7% FT over the last two games).
(via Milwaukee Bucks):
“If Bobby is anything, he’s a believer in himself. And I think that belief in him runs so deep that he makes everybody else believe the same. So even when he wasn’t making shots or he might not have been playing how he wanted to play, he didn’t shy away from trying to be himself. He tried to continue to push and push and push and be himself, and that’s what you want to see. You don’t want to see somebody get discouraged and shy away from maybe a little bit of struggle, and I think embracing and continuing to push through it is how you eventually get over the hump. I think that’s all it is with him.
“I haven’t seen him change anything even when he has struggled. Everything comes to pass. Eventually, you’re going to break through. I think you always want to make sure that you behave in a way that’s respectable even when it’s not going your way, because it’s gon’ turn and you want people to know, ‘I didn’t fold or act funny or pout or all of this stuff when it didn’t go well.’ So obviously our team is different and we need it from him, but it’s always great to see when Bobby is doing his thing. It’s infectious, and it changes our team.”
