Portland Trail Blazers guard Scoot Henderson remains optimistic about the franchise’s future despite its struggles this season.

Speaking with Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Henderson expressed confidence in the team’s potential, saying, “I think we’ll pan out to be one of the top teams in the league pretty soon with the young core that we have and the dogs on our team.”

Henderson highlighted the contributions of his teammates, particularly Donovan Clingan and Shaedon Sharpe, who have shown flashes of promise. “I try to get those guys the ball, and I try to do my thing,” he said. “My main thing is getting guys the ball, letting them rock out, and letting the world see their talent.”

The 20-year-old emphasized his commitment to leadership, both on and off the court, as he works to build chemistry with his teammates. “I think we’re a core that plays hard and is going to shock a lot of teams throughout the season,” Henderson added.

Portland is currently in the midst of a rebuild following the departure of Damian Lillard. The team sits near the bottom of the Western Conference standings with an 8-16 record, placing them 13th. However, Henderson believes the team’s youth and effort will eventually translate into success.

Henderson, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, is navigating a sophomore season filled with challenges. He is averaging 11.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in 26.2 minutes per game. These numbers mark a slight dip from his rookie campaign, where he posted 14 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 5.4 assists in 28.5 minutes per game.

The Trail Blazers’ roster features a promising young core, including Sharpe, Clingan, and Kris Murray, who are all expected to play significant roles in the team’s rebuild. Henderson’s leadership and playmaking will be pivotal in helping the team develop a winning identity.
