Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis came to the defense of head coach Doc Rivers during an appearance on Run It Back on FanDuel TV. Speaking with Michelle Beadle, Chandler Parsons, and guest co-host Danny Green, Portis praised Rivers’ leadership and approach amidst the Bucks’ tumultuous season.

“Obviously, I think Doc gets a lot of slander, but for me personally and for our team, he’s been great,” Portis stated, via HoopsHype. He noted Rivers’ emphasis on structure and daily preparation, adding, “He’s been building us, drilling things every day.”

The Bucks have faced challenges this season, including integrating new players and adjusting to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s return after missing last year’s playoffs due to a calf injury.

Portis reflected on these adjustments, saying, “Early in the season, we didn’t really have a lot of camaraderie and chemistry—obviously, we added new pieces. We hadn’t played with Giannis in a while. He got hurt against the Celtics late last season, sat out the playoffs, and now we’re trying to get re-familiarized with the team.”

Milwaukee began the season with a rough 2-8 start but has since found its rhythm, winning eight of their last ten games. They currently sit at 12-11, holding the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

With high expectations surrounding the Bucks, especially following last season’s first-round playoff exit, Rivers’ leadership will be critical as the team continues its push toward the postseason.
