The Memphis Grizzlies have provided a medical update on forward GG Jackson II, confirming that he remains on track in his recovery from offseason foot surgery. Jackson is expected to return to play within six to eight weeks, marking a significant step forward in his rehabilitation.
Jackson, who suffered a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot during offseason training, underwent surgery on September 4. The injury delayed the start of what many anticipated to be a pivotal sophomore season for the 19-year-old forward.
Team officials stated that Jackson continues to progress well, and further updates will be shared as his recovery advances.
The 45th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft showcased his potential last season after initially splitting time between the Grizzlies and their G League affiliate, the Memphis Hustle.
Extensive injuries to Memphis’s roster led to Jackson’s recall, where he quickly made an impact. His rookie highlights included a career-high 44-point, 12-rebound performance in the regular-season finale, setting records as the youngest player in NBA history to achieve 40 points and 10 rebounds in a game.
Jackson’s rookie campaign ended with averages of 14.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 25.7 minutes per game, earning him a spot on the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.
His ability to contribute as a scorer and rebounder helped bolster a Grizzlies squad that faced numerous setbacks throughout the 2023-24 season.
