San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan is on track to return to action Tuesday night for the first time in nearly a month, as he’s listed as probable for the team’s NBA Cup game in Phoenix, reports Jeff McDonald of The San Antonio Express-News.
Sochan has been out of commission since November 4 due to a fractured thumb that required surgical intervention, causing him to miss the Spurs’ last 13 games.
His absence interrupted what seemed to be a breakout season for the 2022 ninth-overall draft pick. In the six full games he played before the injury, Sochan was putting up impressive numbers, averaging 17.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists over 32.2 minutes per game, all while shooting 50.6% from the field.
In Sochan’s absence, the Spurs have managed to find their rhythm, particularly with rookie Stephon Castle stepping into the starting lineup. The team has won five of their last six games, marking a significant uptick in performance.
This success raises questions about how acting head coach Mitch Johnson will reintegrate Sochan into the rotation. Will he immediately reclaim his starting role, or will he ease back in from the bench?
As the Spurs face Phoenix in a critical NBA Cup game, all eyes will be on how Sochan’s return influences the team’s chemistry and ongoing success.
