Los Angeles Clippers head coach Ty Lue offered an encouraging update on Kawhi Leonard’s recovery ahead of Friday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Leonard, who has yet to play this season while recovering from offseason knee surgery, appears to be making steady progress toward a return.
“He’s progressing well. He’s been able to get on the court and do some things on the court, which is good for us,” Lue said.
“So just still checking every box, making sure that he’s doing the right things and his workouts are really good and making sure we don’t let him get to the next step until he checks those boxes, so our medical staff has done a great job with that, making sure that we make sure he’s 100% when he comes back.”
Leonard’s return is eagerly anticipated as the Clippers look to improve their standing in a competitive Western Conference. Last season, Leonard was a pivotal force for the team, playing in 68 games and delivering an exceptional all-around performance.
However, his availability was severely limited during the playoffs, where he appeared in just two games. Without their star forward, the Clippers were eliminated by the Dallas Mavericks in six games during the first round.
The Clippers are prioritizing caution with Leonard’s recovery, ensuring he returns fully healthy and ready to contribute at his usual high level.
With his progress trending in a positive direction, fans are hopeful he’ll soon rejoin the team and provide the boost they need as they navigate the season.
