New York Knicks forward Mikal Bridges is known as one of the NBA’s most dependable players, earning a reputation as a true ironman by frequently leading the league in games and minutes played.

This reputation made it particularly surprising to see Bridges on the bench during most of the fourth quarter in the Knicks’ back-and-forth victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Friday afternoon.

New York head coach Tom Thibodeau made the call to rely on Miles McBride for the majority of the final period, explaining that he felt the Knicks’ offense was “stuck in the mud” at the time.

Thibodeau highlighted McBride’s contributions, noting that the sixth man appeared “fresher” and was “making shots,” which provided the offensive boost the team needed.

For his part, Bridges demonstrated a team-first attitude and accepted Thibodeau’s decision while taking accountability for his performance. “I got to play better. I’ve been inconsistent,” Bridges said.

“I’ve had some games where I’ve played good, some I haven’t. Just got to find a rhythm within the team. That’s pretty much it. Not even 20 games in, still just trying to figure it out.”

Bridges’ remarks highlight his determination to improve and secure his role, staying focused on contributing during crucial moments and earning his place on the court.
