The NBA announced today that Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown has been fined $35,000 for “aggressively pursuing a game official during live play.” The penalty stems from an incident on Sunday in the second quarter of the Kings’ loss to the Brooklyn Nets.
During the sequence, Brown became incensed when no foul was called on Nets guard Ben Simmons. Simmons had contested a fast-break layup attempt by Kings guard Colby Jones, who ended up on the floor.
Initially deemed a clean block despite apparent contact, the play resulted in a missed layup and a subsequent three-pointer for Brooklyn.
Video of the incident shows Brown following referee Scott Twardoski up the court after the Nets’ basket, berating him for the non-call. Brown’s outburst earned him a technical foul.
This is not the first time Brown has faced disciplinary action for similar conduct. In December 2022, he was fined $25,000 for “aggressively pursuing and directing profane language” at an official.
More recently, in January 2024, he was handed a $50,000 fine for “aggressively pursuing” a referee and criticizing officiating during his post-game remarks.
