Joel Embiid, the reigning 2023 NBA MVP, offered high praise to Jimmy Butler following the Philadelphia 76ers’ loss to the Miami Heat on Monday night.
“Jimmy is Jimmy,” Embiid said after the 106-89 defeat, according to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald. “He does everything, scoring and passing the ball. … On both sides of the floor, he’s one of the best players in the NBA, probably top five, probably the best actually – the best player in the league.”
Butler, 35, showcased his all-around game during the win, posting 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. His performance helped lift the Heat to a solid victory over the Sixers.
Despite some struggles, Butler is having another productive season for Miami, averaging 17.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.9 assists in 30.9 minutes per game.
His versatility and leadership continue to stand out as the Heat navigate through their early-season challenges.
Miami is currently sixth in the Eastern Conference with a 6-7 record. While the team has faced some inconsistency, Butler’s impact remains undeniable, especially when it comes to clutch performances and defending at a high level.
Embiid’s recognition of Butler as one of the best in the league reflects the respect the two players share from their time together as teammates.
Their brief partnership with the 76ers was marked by mutual admiration, with Butler playing a key role in Philadelphia’s deep playoff run in 2019.
