Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant, who has been playing at an MVP-caliber level to kick off the NBA season, sustained a left calf strain on Friday night.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Durant will be sidelined and re-evaluated in two weeks to assess his recovery and timeline for return.
Durant’s impressive early-season performance has propelled the Suns to a strong 8-1 record, placing them atop the Western Conference standings.
Over his nine games, Durant has averaged 27.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, shooting an efficient 55.3 percent from the field and a remarkable 43 percent from beyond the arc.
His offensive efficiency and leadership on the court have made him an early MVP contender and a driving force behind Phoenix’s hot start.
Now, however, the Suns will face a challenging stretch without Durant, who will be out for at least two weeks.
His absence will test the depth of the roster and the resilience of a team aiming to maintain their lead in the competitive Western Conference.
Durant’s averages through nine games this season: 27.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists on 55.3 percent from the field and 43 percent from 3. An early MVP front runner for the West-leading Suns now sidelined for at least two weeks. https://t.co/5qEYdKqLwj
