The Indiana Pacers are reportedly eyeing veteran center JaVale McGee to strengthen their frontcourt depth following the recent season-ending injury to James Wiseman.
According to NBA analyst David Thorpe, the Pacers are evaluating the possibility of bringing the three-time NBA champion onto their roster as they navigate early-season challenges with limited depth at the center position.
McGee, 36, played for the Sacramento Kings during the 2023-24 season, where he averaged 4 points and 2.7 rebounds in 7.4 minutes per game.
Known for his shot-blocking and rebounding, McGee has spent 15 years in the league with teams like the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, and Phoenix Suns, bringing championship experience and a defensive mindset to the court.
Indiana’s current center options include starter Myles Turner, who has been a reliable anchor for their defense and spacing, averaging 17 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, and 1.5 assists in 30.8 minutes per game.
With Wiseman sidelined due to an Achilles injury, Turner is the team’s only active pure center. Wiseman’s absence has left a significant gap in Indiana’s rotation, prompting the need for an additional big man who can support Turner in protecting the rim and controlling the boards.
