Jared Butler is returning to the Washington Wizards on a two-way contract, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto. Butler, who played for Washington last season, will look to build on his previous performance, where he averaged 6.3 points per game on 48.8% shooting from the field.
This marks Butler’s second two-way deal with the Wizards after a brief stint during the 2023-24 season. He originally signed a two-way contract with Washington in July 2023 and earned a multi-year deal with the team by March 2024.
Despite his efforts, Butler was waived by the Wizards on October 19, before re-signing with the team just two days later.
The two-way contract allows Washington to maintain Butler’s services while also enabling him to gain experience in the G League. This type of contract is a valuable tool for teams looking to develop younger players without fully committing a roster spot.
Butler, a former Baylor standout and 2021 NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player, brings championship experience and poise to the Wizards’ development program. His college success has yet to fully translate to the NBA, but his two-way deal gives him another chance to carve out a role in the league.
