The Milwaukee Bucks have waived guard James Akinjo, making him a free agent after initially signing him to a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contract earlier this offseason.

Akinjo, a promising young guard known for his playmaking ability and scoring, will now likely shift his focus to the G League, where he is expected to join the Wisconsin Herd, the Bucks’ G League affiliate.

The player, who had standout collegiate stints at both Georgetown and Baylor, impressed with his quickness, court vision, and tenacity on both ends of the floor.

While the Exhibit 10 contract allowed him to compete for a spot on the Bucks’ regular-season roster, his release is not necessarily the end of his NBA journey.

The terms of the Exhibit 10 deal make it likely that Akinjo will spend time developing his skills with the Herd, where he can continue to work on his game in a competitive environment.

Playing in the G League provides him with a valuable opportunity to showcase his talents and stay on the Bucks’ radar, as well as that of other NBA teams.

Should he perform well, Akinjo could still earn a call-up to the Bucks or another team during the season, keeping his NBA aspirations alive.
