Los Angeles Lakers rookie Bronny James is facing early struggles in his NBA journey, but he remains optimistic about improving. After being drafted 55th overall, James has appeared in four preseason games, totaling just four points. Despite the slow start, the 20-year-old is keeping a positive outlook.

Before his latest performance, where he scored two points in nine minutes against the Golden State Warriors, Bronny acknowledged the need for improvement. “I feel good. The numbers could be better. I just got to get my confidence up,” he told reporters, via Dave McMenamin.

Bronny’s challenges in the NBA mirror those he faced during his time at USC. In his single season with the Trojans, the freshman guard averaged 4.8 points per game, ranking eighth in scoring on the team. His shooting percentages raised concerns as well, with a 36.6% field goal percentage and a disappointing 26.7% from beyond the arc.

These struggles carried over into the NBA Summer League, where Bronny’s shooting continued to be inconsistent. He averaged 8.8 points per game, but only managed to convert 35% of his field goals and a mere 15.8% from three-point range. His shooting woes, combined with limited minutes, have led to skepticism about his readiness for the professional level.

Looking ahead, Bronny will have more opportunities to prove himself as the preseason progresses and the regular season approaches. Lakers head coach JJ Redick has expressed confidence in the rookie’s ability to grow, saying that he is rooting for Bronny.
