Ja Morant: Obviously for us to be a good team, I gotta pick up my defense

At training camp last week, Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant talked about his determination to take on defensive challenges this year.

Michael Wallace: “How much will fans and everyone get to see you be that dynamic on the defensive end as well as taking that challenge?”

Morant: “It’s something I gotta do, man. Obviously for us to be a good team, I gotta pick it up on that end: not get targeted late in games, want the best assignments. With my athleticism and abilities on the floor, I don’t see why I can’t be a good defender and picking up full (court). I did pretty good today, got a couple steals and a little rim graze dunk. So yeah, man. It’s the next leap I gotta take.”
