Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick praised Austin Reaves for his defensive skills and basketball IQ. Redick highlighted Reaves’ dedication and understanding of defensive responsibilities during a recent interview.

“I never thought he was a chump defensively, but he competes his ass off on that end,” Redick stated, according to Corey Hansford of Lakers Nation. He noted that Reaves consistently positions himself well on the court, contributing to the team’s defensive efforts.

Redick explained that Reaves knows where he needs to be in different defensive scenarios. “If he’s supposed to veer, he veers. If he’s supposed to be the low man, he’s the low man,” he said. This level of awareness showcases Reaves’ commitment to the game.

In his third season with the Lakers, Reaves has shown significant growth. He averaged a career-high 15.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.5 assists in 32.1 minutes per game.

Reaves’ defensive skills have become a focal point for the Lakers. His work ethic and understanding of the game make him a valuable asset on both ends of the court. The Lakers look to build on this momentum as they head into the new season.
