Jordan Loyd has officially parted ways with Maccabi Tel Aviv, just months after joining the club. The Israeli team confirmed the guard’s departure in a statement, wishing him success in his future endeavors.
Loyd, a 31-year-old shooting guard, made his decision after playing two games for Maccabi in the EuroLeague. His final appearance came in a loss to AS Monaco, the team he is now expected to rejoin.
Loyd shared his thoughts on leaving the team in an emotional statement on social media. He explained that while his heart wanted to stay, he could no longer ignore the growing safety concerns. He referenced the historic attack he witnessed in Israel earlier in the month as a significant factor in his decision to leave.
“One of the hardest things I’ve had to do in my career is to leave where the heart wants to be,” Loyd wrote in his farewell message. He expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaches, and fans, acknowledging the love and support he received during his short stay in Tel Aviv.
Loyd joined Maccabi in the summer of 2024 and made an immediate impact on the court. In his debut game, he scored 15 points with 2 assists and 1 steal to help Maccabi secure a victory against ASVEL. In his second and final game against Monaco, he contributed 16 points and 4 rebounds.
With 126 career EuroLeague games under his belt, Loyd has established himself as a reliable scorer and playmaker. His career averages of 13.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game make him a valuable asset for any team.
Loyd is now expected to rejoin AS Monaco, the team he played for before signing with Maccabi. During his time with Monaco, Loyd was a key figure, helping the team make a deep playoff run in the EuroLeague. His return would bolster Monaco’s backcourt, as they aim to compete for the EuroLeague title again.
The departure of Loyd is a blow to Maccabi, who were counting on his experience and leadership this season.
