San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan is returning to a two-handed free-throw shooting technique for the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season. Known for his unorthodox one-handed free-throw style, Sochan is making this change as part of his ongoing development as a shooter.
Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News tweeted, “Part of Jeremy Sochan’s evolution as a shooter is a return this preseason to shooting two-handed free throws.” This adjustment marks a significant shift in Sochan’s shooting approach as he works to improve his overall efficiency from the line.
In addition to changing his free-throw routine, Sochan has been refining his perimeter shot. On media day, he mentioned working closely with Spurs shooting coach Jimmy Baron. “I’d say my form has changed,” Sochan said. “We’ve been working on it, getting my elbow higher, a little more arc. We’ve definitely been working on it.”
Last season, Sochan averaged 11.6 points per game, shooting 43.8% from the field, 30.8% from beyond the arc, and 77.1% from the free-throw line. While his one-handed free-throw technique garnered attention, the decision to return to a more conventional shooting style indicates his focus on becoming a more reliable scorer.
Sochan’s one-handed free throws became a talking point during his rookie season, but this change is part of his overall effort to elevate his game. As he enters his third season in the NBA, Sochan is looking to expand his offensive versatility and fine-tune his mechanics.
