Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has expressed a deep connection with the franchise that he’s helped transform into a powerhouse. Reflecting on his role within the team, Green shared his message to team owner Joe Lacob, “I think about this organization like it’s mine.”

The four-time NBA champion elaborated on his thoughts in an interview with Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic, explaining his emotional attachment to the Warriors. Green acknowledged that many players seek trades to title contenders when their team struggles, but he prefers to win championships with the Warriors, the team he helped build from a “laughingstock” to a perennial contender.

Green has been instrumental in the Warriors’ rise to prominence, contributing to four NBA titles since joining the team in 2012. His versatility, defensive prowess, and leadership have been key elements in Golden State’s success. Reflecting on the journey, Green said, “I take a great deal of pride in what we built here. This is home for me.”

The Michigan State alum has been a vocal leader and cornerstone of the Warriors’ dynasty, playing alongside the likes of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. His defensive impact was recognized with a Defensive Player of the Year award, and his playmaking ability has made him a unique asset on both ends of the floor.

The Warriors have seen ups and downs during Green’s tenure, including their record-breaking 73-win season in 2015-16, as well as missing the playoffs in 2020. However, through the highs and lows, Green has remained a constant presence, guiding the team back to title contention.

Green emphasized that his connection with the Warriors goes beyond basketball. “This is like Michigan State for me,” he said, comparing his bond with Golden State to his alma mater. He also expressed his long-term commitment to the team’s future, saying, “I care what this organization looks like in 10 years. That’s going to matter to me.”
