During the open media practice in Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, Boston Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla was talking about upcoming NBA season.
“When you are Celtics, you know everyone wants to beat you. That is just the thing we need to carry and I think it is responsibility we have when playing for the organization that has that, so that’s never going to change no matter what you were doing in the past. You have to get going forward. Every year you are bringing the peace of that, and we know what we representing and fight for that. We have the responsibility to remain that tradition. At the end of the day, every NBA season is difficult and brings up a different kind of challenges, so you just need to be prepared for what those challenges are and handle those as a team”, said the youngest coach since the 1970 who won and NBA title.
Even though, he is the young coach, Joe Mazzulla knows that you can’t look back to the past and that you need to focus on what’s coming next.
“At the end of the day we need to be present and to understand what we did in the past doesn’t matter, and that we doing for the something that is in the future and sticking into process what is good for winning both off and on the floor. We need to stay in the present and ready for what is future bringing”, said the head coach of Boston Celtics.
Jayson Tatum mentioned before coming to Abu Dhabi, that it was good he wasn’t playing much during the Olympics, because he is rested for the beginning of the new season. Despite he didn’t have a lot of minutes for the USA team, Joe Mazzulla emphasizes that as young player Tatum has already accomplished a lot, and still have a time to do more.
“This is a journey and you will have a high level of achievement and he is one of the players that has those. In the last 10 years, I think he accomplished a lot, and that is amazing and the fact that he didn’t play that much in the Olympics just means that you don’t always get what you want and it is kind of a good thing. And hopefully if God willing he will play next 10-14 years, and his time will come, so that is what give us motivation and how to continue work so he can grow as a player”, said coach Mazzulla about one of his key players.
One of the teams that only added few new young players in the team is Boston Celtics and coach Mazzulla was talking about advantages of that.
“I don’t know if I can call not changing the team advantage, we will see, it can be at some points, but we will see but at the end of the day, whatever move you make will get you to the next move, but this is what we have and we think that we have a great team and the great roster. So it is important with newbies to maintain the nonnegotiable standards we have. At the same time, we can all be better as individuals, so we can do things a little bit differently”, finished Boston’s head coach.
