D’Angelo Russell believes that JJ Redick is an ideal choice to begin his coaching career with the Los Angeles Lakers. Russell praised Redick’s ability to balance his coaching style with the players’ perspectives.
On media day, Russell emphasized the importance of a head coach having a distinct voice and vision. He believes that effective coaching requires an understanding of the players’ viewpoints as well.
“I think as the head coach, you have your own way of doing things, you have your own voice, you have your own vision of the way you see things,” Russell stated. “And obviously as players, you have it too. So as a head coach, finding that balance with the players I think is key.”
Russell highlighted that incorporating the insights of players, especially LeBron James, is crucial for a coach’s success. He noted that Redick’s background as a player makes him particularly well-suited for this role.
“When one of your players is one of the greatest of all times, you really got to take that into consideration in your preparation,” Russell added. “I think JJ’s the perfect guy for that because of, like I said, his IQ and his abilities too.”
Redick’s extensive experience in the league has equipped him with a deep understanding of what players need to succeed. Russell believes this will foster a strong player-coach relationship, benefiting the entire team.
As Redick transitions into his coaching role, he aims to leverage his basketball intelligence and unique perspective. The Lakers have high expectations for this season, and Russell is optimistic that Redick’s coaching style will contribute to the team’s success.
