Scoot Henderson has set his sights on greatness as he enters his sophomore season in the NBA. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft is determined to elevate his game and establish himself as one of the best point guards to ever play.

During media day, Henderson addressed his aspirations, saying, “I don’t think it changed my outlook on how I want to be, who I want to be in this league. I want to be one of the greatest point guards to ever play, and I’m going to stand by it.”

Reflecting on his rookie season, Henderson said the experience only boosted his confidence. “I still got that confidence in myself to go out there and perform when year two starts,” he said. “I feel like I’m even more confident now with the year I have under my belt.”

Henderson emphasized that his growing comfort with his teammates has played a key role in his development. “The fun I can have with my teammates now, just getting to know them more personally rather than on the court, and taking it from there,” he said.

Improvement has been a significant focus for Henderson this offseason. He worked closely with trainers to enhance his physical abilities, particularly his speed and strength. “I’m pretty fast, but I feel like I’m stronger and faster now,” he explained. Henderson has also refined his movement, learning how to “move stronger through my hips” and “from a different base.”

When asked about potentially earning a starting role in his second season, Henderson remained focused on what he can control. “I’m controlling what I can, and that’s going out there practicing, playing my game, having fun while doing it, cheering on my teammates while doing it,” he said. “That’s not my decision to make.”

Last season, Henderson averaged 14 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 5.4 assists in 28.5 minutes per game. He started in 32 of the 62 games he played and showed flashes of the potential that led to his high draft selection.

Henderson’s rookie campaign has positioned him as one of the young stars to watch in the NBA. With another offseason of work under his belt and a renewed focus on becoming a top-tier point guard, Henderson is poised to take a leap in his second season.

As the new season approaches, the young guard’s goals are clear. “I want to be one of the greatest point guards to ever play,” Henderson reiterated. His confidence, combined with his relentless work ethic, suggests that Henderson has the potential to achieve that lofty ambition.
