
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark was unanimously named the 2024 Associated Press WNBA Rookie of the Year, it was announced today. This prestigious recognition caps off an extraordinary debut season for Clark, who was also honored as a four-time WNBA Rookie of the Month, three-time WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week, and WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month in August. With this accolade, Clark joins Aliyah Boston as the only players in Fever history to earn the title of AP Rookie of the Year.
In addition to her rookie accolades, Clark was selected for the AP All-WNBA First Team alongside stars like Napheesa Collier, Breanna Stewart, Alyssa Thomas, and A’ja Wilson. She also secured a spot on the AP All-Rookie Team, which featured rising talents such as Kamilla Cardoso, Leonie Fiebich, Rickea Jackson, and Angel Reese.
Clark’s inaugural season with the Fever was nothing short of groundbreaking. Starting all 40 regular-season games, she set multiple WNBA records and led all rookies in several key statistical categories. Clark finished the season with an impressive average of 19.2 points per game, leading rookies in scoring, field goals made (242), 3-point field goals made (122), assists (8.4 per game), steals (1.3 per game), and minutes played (35.4 per game). Her total of 769 points not only set a franchise record for a single season but also marked the highest total ever recorded by a rookie point guard in WNBA history.
Clark’s assist tally was equally remarkable. She racked up 337 assists during the regular season, shattering the previous rookie record of 316. Additionally, her 35 double-digit scoring games and 14 double-doubles set new benchmarks for both rookies and guards in the league.
Adding to her list of milestones, Clark became the first rookie in WNBA history to achieve a triple-double, and she made franchise history by recording a triple-double in her rookie campaign. On July 17, during a highly anticipated matchup against the Dallas Wings, she dished out an astounding 19 assists, which set a new record for the most assists in a single game in WNBA history. Clark also achieved a franchise record by having 12 games with at least 10 assists.
Her All-Star debut on July 20 further highlighted her exceptional season; Clark became just the third rookie in franchise history to start in the All-Star game. In her 26 minutes on the court, she tied for the second-most assists in an All-Star game with a game-high 10 assists. Notably, she received a staggering 700,735 votes, the most ever recorded in WNBA All-Star voting history.
