Former NBA big man John Henson has confirmed his retirement from professional basketball and is focusing on the next chapter of his life. In an interview with Spencer Davies of RG.org, Henson expressed gratitude for his career and optimism about his future endeavors.

“I was so blessed to play this long,” Henson said. “It’s a lot of opportunities, man. It’s just a matter of one step at a time. I’m only 33, so I have time to explore and figure out what I want to do next. This is just the next phase, and we’ll see where it takes me. But so far, so good.”

Henson, the 14th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, had a notable career that began with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he played for seven seasons. He later had stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons during the 2019-2020 season.

Over his career, he averaged 7.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks in 19.7 minutes per game across 445 appearances, including 160 starts. Unfortunately, injuries such as wrist and hamstring issues affected his performance and availability in his later years.

In April 2021, Henson signed a 10-day contract with the New York Knicks, but did not play any games. He also joined Mets de Guaynabo in Puerto Rico in March 2022, but did not make an appearance for the team. With his playing days behind him, Henson is now focused on exploring new opportunities and moving forward.
