Montrezl Harrell, who missed the 2023–24 NBA season due to an ACL injury, is set to continue his career in Australia. Harrell has agreed to a deal with the Adelaide 36ers (NBL), sources told ESPN’s Olgun Uluc.
The 6’7″ power forward, a 2020 NBA Sixth Man of the Year, will join the 36ers as an injury replacement for Jarell Martin. Martin, who is recovering from a patellar tendon injury, is also dealing with a foot issue that might sideline him until November.
Harrell’s deal with Adelaide is initially short-term, but there is potential for him to stay with the team even after Martin’s return. To keep Harrell, the 36ers would need to deactivate a local player.
Before this move, Harrell had a notable yet turbulent year. On June 21, 2023, he declined his $1.97 million player option to become a free agent. He signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers on July 18 but suffered an ACL injury on August 2, leading to his waiver on October 23.
During the 2022–23 NBA season, Harrell averaged 5.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in 11.9 minutes per game. His performance was hindered by injuries, which kept him out of the previous NBA season.
